Care that keeps small problems small

General dentistry is the everyday work that prevents bigger treatment later. Cleanings, examinations, x-rays and the preventive extras that protect your teeth between visits. It is the least dramatic part of what we do at Roseborough Dental, and the part that saves patients the most money over a lifetime.

Most cavities and most gum disease give no warning in the early stages. Teeth can feel completely fine while decay works under the surface, which is why we would rather see you twice a year than see you once in pain.

Digital x-rays

Digital x-rays show what an examination cannot: decay between teeth, bone levels under the gums, infection at the root, and the position of teeth that have not come through yet. Digital sensors use less radiation than older film, and the images appear on screen straight away so we can show you exactly what we are looking at.

We take x-rays based on need rather than on a fixed schedule. How often depends on your age, your history of decay and your current oral health.

Fluoride treatments

Fluoride strengthens enamel and helps reverse very early decay before it becomes a cavity. It is quick, applied at the end of a cleaning, and useful for children, patients prone to decay, and anyone with sensitivity or exposed root surfaces.

Dental sealants

Sealants are thin protective coatings painted into the grooves of back teeth, where toothbrush bristles struggle to reach. Those grooves are where most childhood cavities start. Sealants are most often used for children and teens, though adults with deep grooves and no decay can benefit as well.

Oral cancer screening

Oral cancer is among the more common cancers worldwide, and outcomes depend heavily on how early it is found. We check for it at your regular examinations, looking and feeling for changes in colour or texture in your oral tissues, along with any lumps, sores or thickened areas.

The screening takes a couple of minutes and is not uncomfortable. If we see something that warrants a closer look, we will explain it clearly and arrange the appropriate follow-up. Most findings turn out to be harmless, and checking is still worth it.

Nightguards and sportsguards

Grinding and clenching, often at night, wear down enamel, crack fillings and cause jaw pain and headaches. Many people have no idea they do it. A custom nightguard protects your teeth while you sleep and is far cheaper than repairing the damage grinding causes over years.

Custom sportsguards protect against knocked-out and broken teeth during sport. They fit better than the boil-and-bite versions sold in shops, which matters because a guard that does not stay in place does not protect much.

Air abrasion for some small fillings

Air abrasion removes small areas of decay using a fine stream of particles rather than a drill, and often without a needle. It suits early, shallow cavities. Larger or deeper decay still needs conventional treatment, and we will tell you honestly which category yours falls into.

Comfort and sedation

If dental visits make you anxious, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation are both available. We also guarantee on-time appointments, so you are not sitting in the waiting room getting more nervous.
